A man in his 70s has sustained "life changing injuries" during a crash near St Albans.

The incident took place on the A405 North Orbital Road, near Chiswell Green, at around 4.05pm yesterday (Monday, June 26).

According to Hertfordshire police, a grey Citroen van and a pedestrian were involved in the collision.

Teams from Hertfordshire Constabulary and the East of England Ambulance Service attended the scene, along with a helicopter from the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

Road closures were put in place, between the A405 North Orbital Road roundabout and the B4630 Watford Road roundabout.

The pedestrian - the man in his 70s - was then taken to hospital with "serious injuries that are believed to be life changing".

A 43-year-old man from Hemel Hempstead was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless or inconsiderate driving.

He has since been released on police bail.

PC Alison Elderfield said: “Our enquiries are continuing, and we are urging anyone with information to please get in touch.

“Were you in the area at the time and saw what happened?

"Additionally, if you have a dash cam fitted, please check it as you may have recorded some crucial footage that may help our investigation.”
