Harpenden's new mayor has announced that she will be supporting two "fantastic" local charities.
Cllr Fiona Gaskell has chosen Herts Young Homeless and Harpenden Mencap to support during her year in office.
The mayor was elected on Thursday, May 11, at Harpenden Town Council's annual council meeting.

She will now host a number of events to raise funds for the two organisations.
The first of which, will be a quiz night on Friday, September 1.
Speaking of her chosen charities, Cllr Fiona Gaskell said: "Herts Young Homeless and Harpenden Mencap are fantastic charities that do such important work in our community to prevent homelessness in young people and support people with learning disabilities.
"It will be a great pleasure and privilege to raise as much money as I can to help them continue to do so.”
Nicola MacKinnon, Herts Young Homeless' community fundraising officer, added: "We are thrilled to be one of the Mayor of Harpenden’s charities this year.

"As a local charity supporting vulnerable young people and their families, it will be a great chance to increase the awareness of what we do in Harpenden in the coming year.
"We are looking forward to supporting the Mayor with all her events this year and hopefully meeting lots of Harpenden residents.”
Angela Duce, Harpenden Mencap's CEO, commented: "We are delighted that the Mayor has chosen Harpenden Mencap as one of her nominated charities for the year ahead.
"We look forward to working together to raise our profile and make Harpenden one of the best communities for learning disabled people to live."
