Artwork worth £3,000 has been stolen from the Alban Arena in St Albans.

The theft took place between 11pm and midnight on Saturday, December 3.

At that time a charity event was taking place at the location, and the piece was being displayed on stage alongside a DJ and a live band.

This artwork was discovered missing at the end of the night.

Hertfordshire police have now appealed for the public's help in tracing the piece.

The artwork itself is a giant painting of Booker T and the MGs' single 'Green Onions' that has been created by Morgan Howell.

Howell is a celebrated local artist who has exhibited in Texas, LA, Dublin and Russia.

PC Lee Hammond said: “The piece is approximately 1m x 1m in size and it’s possible that someone may have taken it thinking it was a stage prop, not realising its true value.

“I am appealing for the person who took it to please get in touch so that it can be returned to its rightful owner.

“Equally, I would like to hear from anyone else who thinks they may have come across it or seen it advertised for sale.”
