The demand for foodbanks is rising across the UK.

The cost of living crisis and coronavirus have had their effect on the economy and the personal finances of those living throughout Hertfordshire.

St Albans and the surrounding area has not been immune to this, and finding food has become more important than ever.

With that in mind here's seven foodbanks available in the local area.

These foodbanks are organised by the St Albans & District Foodbank, and require a valid foodbank voucher to access.

1. Redbourn Methodist Church, Redbourn

Redbourn Methodist Church is located on North Common, AL3 7BU.

The location is open as a foodbank between 2pm and 3.30pm on Mondays.

The church was created in 1836, when it was built for just £180 according to redbournvillage.org.

The premesis was expanded in 1876, when land that then contained two houses and a barn was purchased.

2. Cottonmill Community & Cycling Centre, St Albans

Cottonmill Community & Cycling Centre is located on Old Oak, Cottonmill Lane.

The location is open as a foodbank between 1pm and 3pm every Wednesday.

A new community centre was built at the location earlier this year, providing a range of activities.

A community cafe and cycle repair workshop is also present.

3. Hilldyke Community Centre, Wheathampstead

Hilldyke Community Centre is located at 17 Hilldyke Road, Wheathampstead.

The centre is open as a foodbank between 12.30pm and 2.30pm.

Other activities at Hilldyke Community Centre include Jolly Tots, Plates, Zumba and a Youth Club.

The hall is also available to hire.

4. Crabtree Church, Harpenden

Crabtree Church is situated on Crabtree Lane, Harpenden.

The location is open as a foodbank between 1pm and 3pm on Fridays.

Crabtree Church has been in the area for over 60 years.

An 'Oasis' coffee and chat session is also held at the location.

5. Christ Church, St Albans

Christ Church is situated in New Greens, St Albans.

The church is located at 3 High Oaks.

A foodbank is available at the church, from 1pm until 3pm on Tuesdays.

6. London Colney Parish Council, London Colney

London Colney Parish Council is located within Caledon Community Centre.

This is situated on Caledon Road, London Colney.

The location is open as a foodbank from 10am until 12pm on Fridays.

A food bank named 'Feed' is located at the Vineyard Church.

This is situated at 7 Brick Knoll Park, St Albans.

'Feed' is open to those with valid foodbank vouchers between 10am and 12 noon on Mondays.
