Green party volunteers have collected over 20 bags of food from residents in support of St Albans foodbank.
Going door to door asking for donations of tinned and dried food, the volunteers were overwhelmed with the volume of goods residents handed over.
Green councillor Simon Grover said: “We asked people to dig out a tin or packet of food that they didn’t need, leave it on the doorstep, and we’d come back round to collect the items.
"When we returned we were amazed to see how much people left out. Some people left full bags of food for us. We struggled to carry it all!”
Local Greens are campaigning on the cost of living crisis that is increasingly affecting residents.
Councillor Grover said: “We’re highlighting the resources available for people, from council services to grants and benefits, that a lot of people don’t know about.
"People are going to need all the help they can get in the coming months as energy prices rise and inflation generally takes hold.”
St Albans Foodbank is located at Cottonmill Community & Cycling Centre, Cottonmill Lane.
The service, like many other foodbanks, is part of the Trussell Trust network. For more information, go to stalbansdistrict.foodbank.org.uk.
