Bells at St Stephen’s Church, St Albans sounded out a warning about climate change on Saturday evening.
St Stephen’s ringers were taking part in a national initiative on the eve of the COP 27 conference in Egypt and this involved bellringers all over the country.
Rev'd Becky Leach, vicar of St Stephen’s, said: "I am delighted that the bell ringers at St Stephen's Church took part in the National Bell Ringing event on Saturday evening on the eve of the COP27 meeting in Sharm el Sheikh, Egypt to warn against the threat of global warming.
"Climate change, with its consequent rising global temperature, is already causing devastation to peoples across the world, with rising sea levels, droughts, flash floods and extreme storms being some of the impacts we've seen this year.
"Often it is the poorest who are being affected most adversely, and the resultant migration caused by loss of crops or lack of water affects us all.
"St Stephen's Parish Church has committed to reducing its carbon footprint and to working with others in the community to learn to live more sustainably with our environment."
