A children’s jungle-themed play centre has reopened its doors after a leak in the roof wreaked havoc at the beginning of May.
Disaster struck indoor soft place centre, DJ’s Jungle Adventure, in Sandridge, when a sudden leak from a blocked gutter on the roof turned “the jungle into a rainforest.”
It then closed for refurbishment meaning a number of children’s parties had to be postponed or cancelled.
Managing director, Helen Whittington, said: “We have had quite good weather for the last couple of months so we have managed to dry out the building and have completely replaced the flooring that was affected.
“We used our closure as an opportunity to refresh everything and act on some of comments customers had left, for example improving our baby changing area and making the gates in and out more secure for the children and we have been looked at the menu and changing suppliers to provide better quality food.”
Some members of staff were also out of work while the works got under way, though some were drafted in to help with the cleaning and painting.
Helen added: “It was a bit of a project and not one that I had done before.
“It’s almost easier when it is open as it runs itself but when it came to a close it was just down to me to ensure everything ended up okay.
“But it’s onwards and upwards, I thought it would be a difficult time to launch because of summer but schools are coming to the end of term and we just need to tap into the new set of mums coming for September as every year the children who are there regularly start school.”
Helen went on: “It’s hard to determine the financial impact of the closure at the moment and we had to cancel quite a few parties but I think we dealt with it quite well so hopefully they will come back and some of them have just postponed instead.”
