Watford footballer and all-round top-notch chap, Ikechi Anya, stunned staff at an Oxfam store on Chequer Street last week (3) when he donated a bundle of tracksuits and football boots.
Staff did not intially recognise Anya - a Scotland international with 17 caps under his belt - and it was only when he tweeted a picture of his donation that they realised who he was.
Abi Owen, the store’s deputy manager, said: “He just came in and said, ‘I’ve got some stuff I don’t need - do you want it?’ so we just took it, not realising [who he was].
“It was only later on when he tweeted us that it clicked. The only footballer I know is David Beckham.”
The donation - a selection of Scotland football tracksuits, football boots and shirts - went on sale yesterday (9) via the Chequer Street Oxfam store’s eBay page.
Abi said: “We are hoping to try and raise as money as we can and we think by selling it online works better for stuff like this.”
