The St Albans branch of a homelessness charity has raised more than £2,500 during the official opening of its new charity shop in Harpenden.
Free mocktails, a charity auction and the sale of dozens of quality donated good saw Emmaus St Albans’ new store opening lauded as a success.
The mayor of Tring, Stephen Hearn, who has appeared on the Antiques Roadshow and Bargain Hunt, auctioned off 48 vintage and antique collectables on behalf of the charity, raising £992.
He said: “It was fantastic to see so many local people getting involved in the auction, which will raise both awareness and much-needed funds for such a worthy cause.”
Tony Ferrier, CEO of Emmaus St Albans, said: “Raising more than £2,500 will help to contribute to the cost of running our community and the continued support offered to Emmaus companions - formerly homeless people - who live and work in the community.”
Emmaus supports formerly homeless people by giving them a home, meaningful work in a social enterprise and an opportunity to regain lost self-esteem to help rebuild lives.
