Hertfordshire CC captain Nesan Jeyaratnam is confident the county can have a successful summer.
The North Mymms player has seen his side begin the term with back-to-back victories over Norfolk and Bedfordshire in the Unicorns Counties KO Trophy.
Jeyaratnam said: “I am looking forward to the season and, with a good balance of experience and youth, I am confident we can have a successful year.”
The skipper who led by example with 72 in the first clash which ended in a five-wicket triumph, said: “Our opening game against Norfolk was a tough test, however we played very well with both bat and ball.
“We set the tone early with some tight bowling and then being able to take regular wickets allowed us to stay on top throughout Norfolk’s innings, restricting them to 247.
“A great opening stand of 110 from Eddie Ballard and I was a great platform, and although we lost a flurry of wickets, Daniel Blacktopp (40) and Ben Frazer (53) batted with great calmness and saw us home to victory.”
A four-wicket success over Bedfordshire, despite a rain delayed start, on Sunday saw Harpenden’s Frazer star again with a half-century and a four wicket haul.
Herts lost the toss and were asked to field first. Regular wickets fell throughout the innings as Bedfordshire were all out for 204.
Jeyaratnam was full of praise for his bowling attack.
“Will Jones, Ben Frazer and Syed Ali Kazmi were amazing with the ball, giving us great control.
“Regular wickets then saw us fall to 50-4, however Ben Frazer with his second consecutive 50 showed his wealth of experience and got the total to within 50.
“Reece Hussain and James Scott then saw us home with three wickets in hand, batting very sensibly and with great calmness for such a young pair.”
While happy with the opening successes, Jeyaratnam knows there is plenty more his troops can do.
“Two from two is a great start, but there is much more room for improvement if we are to progress in the competition,” he said.
Next up for Herts is an away trip to Cambridgeshire on Sunday.
Jeyaratnam added: “Cambridgeshire will be a real test of where we are as they are consistently a very good side.”
