ST ALBANS will be transformed into a giant Monopoly board this weekend and everyone is invited to throw the dice.
A one-mile-square area of the city centre will host the game on Sunday and each team of up to six people will spend the afternoon running around St Albans to various destinations.
Just like in the board game, players can see what's in the community chest, take a chance and throw the dice to determine their next move. Entertainment en route includes music from the Blue Angel Acoustic Club and the Redbourn Folk Club, and there will be snack stops at The Boot pub and Merchant Tea and Coffee house.
The initiative was launched by the St Albans Arts, Sports and Health team, and is supported by Parker, makers of the Monopoly board game. Clare Baker from the St Albans team said: "We approached Parker with the idea after St Albans was voted the new Mayfair for a special 2007 edition of the game. So the project has been a long time in the making, and we're all excited to see the end result on Sunday."
The organisers are hoping for at least 10 teams, and Clare has her fingers crossed for dry weather. She added, "Even if it does rain, everyone should come along anyway. It's a great way to get some fresh air and discover the tucked-away sights of St Albans."
The event is free of charge and players must arrive at the Town Hall between 11:30am and 12:30pm to register. Teams have until 4:30pm to get back to the start, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult.
