SIR, - St Albans District Council has come in for a lot of criticism for not collecting rubbish and recycling during the snow. Of course this is inconvenient, but I don't think we should complain too much - after all, no-one has died because of it.
However, the many road traffic accidents in Herts and elsewhere caused by the snow and ice have caused deaths and injuries. Also, readers may recall the tragic case of a milkman who died while delivering to a home in Harpenden in icy weather some years ago. He slipped and the broken glass penetrated his heart.
I would actually like to commend the district council for frequently updating their website to announce their revised plans for collections. This is an excellent example of how the power of the internet can be usefully harnessed.
